Am I Broke?
Privacy Policy
Effective 19 October 2026
In short
- We keep only what the app needs to work.
- Names and notes are encrypted on your phone. We can't read them.
- No ads, no analytics, no tracking. Your data is never sold.
- Delete your account in the app and everything goes, straight away.
What we collect
Your account
Your email address. If you sign in with Apple or Google, the account ID they give us. With Apple's “Hide My Email”, we only see the relay address.
If you use a password, we store a one-way hash of it, never the password itself.
Your budgets, goals and transactions
Amounts, currencies, dates, budget cycles, and whether each entry is income, an expense or a transfer.
Names and notes, encrypted
Budget and goal names and transaction descriptions are encrypted on your device before they're sent. We store them but can't read them.
The key stays on your devices, synced by iCloud Keychain. An optional recovery key, held only by you, can restore it.
A few settings
Your time zone and first day of the week, so budgets reset when you expect.
Your subscription
If you have Pro: Apple's transaction ID and expiry date. Apple handles payment, so we never see your card or billing details.
What we don't do
- No analytics, advertising or tracking tools. Nothing follows you across other apps or sites.
- We don't sell or rent your data, or share it for marketing.
- We don't connect to your bank. Everything in the app is what you enter.
Why we use it
Only to run the app: signing you in, storing and syncing your budgets, resetting them on schedule, keeping widgets, Live Activities and Shortcuts up to date, and knowing whether you have Pro.
Who handles it
- Hosting and infrastructure providers store your data and run the app's servers.
- Apple handles purchases.
- Apple or Google handle sign-in, if you choose them.
They process data only to run the app. Your data may be stored and processed outside your country.
If you've chosen to share analytics with app developers in your iPhone's settings, Apple may send us anonymous crash reports.
On your device
The app keeps a copy of your data on your iPhone so it opens fast and works in widgets.
Widgets and Live Activities can show balances on your Home and Lock Screen. To hide them, turn on Profile → Hide amounts.
Keeping and deleting your data
We keep your data while you have an account. To delete it, go to Profile → Account → Delete account.
That permanently removes your account, budgets, goals and transactions from our database straight away. If you used Sign in with Apple, it also revokes the app's access to your Apple ID.
You can also email us to get a copy of your data, or to have it corrected or deleted.
Security
Everything travels over HTTPS, and names and notes are end-to-end encrypted on top of that. No system is perfectly secure, so we keep what we hold to a minimum.
Children
Am I Broke? isn't meant for children under 13, and we don't knowingly collect their data.
Changes
If this policy changes, we'll update this page and the date at the top. Big changes will be mentioned in the app.
